Sky Sports Living for Sport

Sky Sports Living for Sport

, ,

Jenna is a National Athlete Mentor on the Sky Sports Living for Sport programme. Whilst also visiting schools in her Athlete Mentor role Jenna is also helping schools who have ran Sky Sports Living for Sport projects in the past to continue to develop and improve their students’ lives through sport.
What is Sky Sports Living for Sport?
It is a flexible initiative available FREE to all secondary schools helping teachers work with targeted 11-16 year olds to help change behaviours, improve life skills and increase attainment through the power of sport. Using different sports and tutorials, and also event leadership and planning, projects are tailored to inspire each student to work towards personal goals, whether it be improving confidence, raising attainment in class or leading a healthier lifestyle.
How does it work?
The school selects a target group of young people who they feel need support (maybe a group low in confidence/self esteem or a group disengaged from lessons); the teacher will then choose a range of sporting activities to engage the group, encourage them to set goals and work towards creating their own event (e.g. they might decide to run a sports session in a Primary School). Finally, the school will celebrate the groups’ achievements (e.g. school trip/assembly). Throughout all of this, an Athlete Mentor like myself will arrange to come into work with the SSLFS group (and other groups if required) and provide an inspirational day to keep your students motivated and on track!
What can I do to sign up?
For more details, and to register, please visit http://livingforsport.skysports.com It is very easy to register and plan a project (it takes a few minutes) however if you would like some assistance with this then please feel free […]

Jenna is an Athlete Mentor for the DKH Legacy Trust and works on many programmes ran by the Trust.

One of the most rewarding programmes Jenna has ever worked on is Get on Track. Supported by a range of partners, ‘Get on Track’ aims to provide disadvantaged young people with the chance to enhance their confidence, self belief and employability skills. Other programmes Jenna has worked on in her Athlete Mentor role include: London 2012 Young Leaders Programme, AQA Unlocking Potential, National Citizen Service, Aspiring Minds, Young People Re-engagement Programme.
What is the DKH Legacy Trust?
Dame Kelly Holmes wanted to create a legacy from her athletics career that would benefit the young people who look up to, and are inspired by elite sports performers like herself.
Having seen first hand the difference that world class sports performers can make to kids’ lives, Dame Kelly set up her own charity, the DKH Legacy Trust. Its mission is to get young lives on track.
Uniquely, every young person that the Trust supports has the chance to work with, be inspired by, and learn from the experience of world class sports stars. Our world-class athletes mentor and support young people across the country through a range of our personal development programmes. Our Olympians, Paralympians, and world champions know what it takes to overcome adversity, and still have the will to succeed, not only in sport, but in life too.
Across our programmes, our athletes inspire, motivate and support young people. They engage, enable and empower them to go on to make positive changes in their own lives.
As well as the lives of young people, the DKH Legacy Trust is also committed to supporting athletes, whether they are still competing, retired or […]

Sporting Champions

Sporting Champions

,

Jenna’s role as a Sporting Champion is to increase sports participation in the local area, retain the young people on the programme and successfully transition them into sustainable club sport.

Sporting Champions is a Sport England initiative bringing world-class athletes face-to-face with young people and young adults to inspire and motivate them.

A team of current and retired elite athletes have been recruited based on their wealth of experience and enthusiasm for sport as well as their ability to interact with young people and young adults with the aspiration of increasing participation in sport.

The scheme is aligned to the Sportivate programme. The scheme offers CSPs the ability to tap into a series of visits to support their delivery and increase the likelihood of growing the participation base, retaining young people and young adults throughout their Sportivate coaching programmes and successfully transition them into sustainable club sport.

Sporting Champions are also supporting the School Games Festivals. In 2012, 60 Sporting Champions supported 30 Local Organising Committees Level 3 Festivals reaching in excess of 20,000 young people.
